Types of PMADs

Postpartum Depression (PPD): Persistent sadness, hopelessness, or loss of interest in activities. Symptoms may include fatigue, difficulty bonding with the baby, and feelings of worthlessness.

Postpartum Anxiety (PPA): Intense worry, restlessness, and racing thoughts. It may involve panic attacks or intrusive thoughts.

Postpartum Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (PPOCD): Disturbing thoughts and compulsive behaviors related to the baby's safety or well-being.

Postpartum Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PPTSD): Often triggered by traumatic birth experiences, involving flashbacks, nightmares, and heightened anxiety.

Postpartum Psychosis: A rare but severe condition involving hallucinations, delusions, and severe confusion. This requires immediate medical attention.

Perimenopause and Menopause

Perimenopause and menopause are significant hormonal transitions that can deeply impact mental health. During these stages, women may experience emotional and psychological symptoms due to fluctuating estrogen, progesterone, and other hormonal changes.

Parenting Transitons

Parenting transitions refer to significant changes in family dynamics that impact parents, children, and their relationships. These transitions can be challenging but also offer opportunities for growth and stronger connections.

Common Parenting Transitions:

Becoming New Parents: Adjusting to sleepless nights, new routines, and shifts in relationship dynamics.

Separation or Divorce: Navigating co-parenting, custody arrangements, and emotional changes.

Blended Families: Building trust and harmony with stepchildren and new family structures.

Child Development Stages: Managing shifts from infancy to adolescence to adulthood.

Empty Nest Syndrome: Adjusting to children leaving home and redefining your role as a parent.

Loss or Grief: Coping with the emotional impact of losing a family member or significant life change.

Tips for Managing Parenting Transitions:

Communication is Key: Maintain open and honest dialogue with your children and co-parents to ensure everyone’s feelings are acknowledged.

Consistency & Routine: Stability helps children feel secure during uncertain times.

Empathy & Patience: Children may express confusion, sadness, or anger. Listening with compassion can ease their concerns.

Seek Support: Family counseling, parenting groups, or trusted friends can provide guidance during difficult transitions.
